Pass & Seymour's line of Reiker retrofit braces is intended to allow you to install ceiling fixtures--that is, fans and lights--in finished construction. In other words, if you want to install a fan in your older house without having to cut a huge hole in your ceiling, this is the way to go.

Once the hole is cut, just slide the brace in, expand it so it presses up against each joist, set the self-leveling feet on top of your ceiling material, then attach it to the joists. Now you're ready to install your fixture. (Note that the #33300 brace is available without the electrical box.)

The brace is UL listed for lighting fixtures of up to 150 pounds and fans of up to 70 pounds. It expands to fit joists spans of 16 to 25 inches, and comes with a 1-year warranty. Conforms to NEMA OS1.--Josh Dettweiler
